Mr Brain
so, after a long time of not watching any dramas (i have not seen a drama from start to end for quite a few years), i started digging my collections of drama that i had as well as getting new ones to watch, the most recent one being mr.brain.
Follow up:
this is just an 8 episode drama (3 episodes short of the typical 11 episode jdrama) by the famous kimura takuya, and the well known ayase haruka. if you do not know who is haruka, obviously you have not watched sekai no chuushin de.
this show reminds me quite strongly of kindaichi, not that it copied kindaichi, but that every episode there is 1 murder case which needs to be solved, and most of the time the circumstances of murder looks illogical. unlike kindaichi, this drama also employed the use of over-exaggerated technology the police had. with the out-of-the-world technology as well as the extreme intelligence and logic of the weird tsukumo, those mysteries were solved one by one.
this drama invites guest stars to act in each episode, as the murderer or the people surrounding the murderer. famous people like gackt who acted as the psychopathic cannibal (i think he looks pretty cool in that), kamenashi kazuya (nobuta wo produce), sato takeru (bloody monday), nakama yukie (gokusen), koyuki...etc took part in the production, giving this whole drama a great cast. personally i think their acting skills were quite good.
for the non-guests who appeared in every (or nearly every) episode, i kind of like kagawa teruyuki more than the others for the male cast and kinoshita yukina for the female cast, although yukina isn't probably very famous. i find her role as the 'violent' yet pretty cleaning lady very interesting and that it is a very big difference from the typical cleaning lady we have in real life. i mean, how often do you see a pretty and cool cleaning lady throwing your rubbish in the office? she is the same age as me though. haha. as for teruyuki, his acting ability can be seen from his shows, whether he plays the bad guy or the good cop.
overall, some feel that this drama is being overrated, while some felt that it is a must watch. i wouldn't say it is a must watch drama, just that you would miss out on a very good show if you pass it up. here and there throughout the show, we can pick up knowledge on the brain which we can learn. using this knowledge (as well as the logic and intelligence of the famous brain scientist), crimes are solved in a logical manner.
if your brain is tired, play shiritori. if you lie, remember to consciously not look to your right. if you want to look more feminine (when you are a female) or more masculine (when you are a male), stay on a person's left field of vision. oh, it can probably teach you how to win at rock, scissors, paper too. just don't challenge a beautiful cleaning lady on that. she will beat you no matter what.
