A very volatile period in the financial markets this week as Trump slammed hard on tariffs, which later escalated into more tariffs with China. Countries like Europe were preparing to join China and go against the US, but suddenly Trump u-turned and said alright let’s have a 90-day cooldown period and I am just going to give you only 10% tariffs. Everybody else quickly turned to be chummy with Trump, leaving only China going head-to-head against the US with neither backing down.
Trump then later had a famous video showing him happily pointing to his friend who earned 900 million in that few days. $900 million worth of profits in the stock market (zero sum game) meant that the rest of the retailers lost $900 million. Definitely unethical, much as I had supported Trump before. But regardless, he is the most powerful man in the world now, and the rest of us in the markets have to adapt and survive.
This week I went in with another batch of Fu Shou Yuan and Sinopec stock when prices fell. If all goes according to original plan, I should have bought 2 batches of both Fu Shou Yuan and Sinopec instead of 1 batch. I should also have bought another batch of COFCO Sugar but I did not react in time for COFCO. I bought only half of the intended Fu Shou Yuan and Sinopec as market was unexpectedly volatile, and I did not want to quickly rush in. Nobody knows what will happen tomorrow, and as of now I am still unsure whether I made the right decision to cut my purchase by half.
One little good news is that Fu Shou Yuan will be paying out its first batch of dividends end of this month (ex-dividend date 07 April 2025). The good thing about dividend stocks is that they still pay out money despite bad conditions, and it is indeed a consolation in tough times. Dividend stocks will not make you obscenely rich, but provide safety and stability.
Crypto seems as dead as always, and everyday everyone is hoping the price will go back up again soon.
